Mexico receives 17 million tourists from January to October; Cancun and Los Cabos the most visited

Millions of international tourists arrived in the country by air to visit the beaches of Cancun and Los Cabos.

Mexico.– The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that, in the period from January to October 2023, the arrival of 17 million 664 thousand international tourists by air to our country was recorded according to their nationality. , which represents an increase of 6.2% compared to what was registered in the same period of 2022.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) highlighted that, according to information from the Migration Policy Unit-Registration and Identity of Persons of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), this figure also exceeds the arrivals registered during the period January- October 2019, with 13.8%, when 15 million 517 thousand international tourists were registered.

He indicated that the main countries in arrivals of international tourists by air to Mexico from January to October 2023 were the United States, Canada and Colombia, with 13 million 460 thousand tourists; This is 7% more compared to the first ten months of 2022, and also exceeding the 10 million 871 thousand tourists from January-October 2019 by 23.8%.

Torruco Marqués pointed out that, in the first ten months of the year, the arrival of American tourists by air reached 11 million 21 thousand tourists, exceeding by 3.4% more than what was registered in January-October 2022, and increasing the arrivals of that number by 27.9%. period of 2019, when there were 8 million 616 thousand tourists.

He added that the arrival of Canadian tourists by air during the period January-October 2023 was 1,835,000 tourists, this is 51.6% higher than the 1,210,000 tourists who arrived in the same period of 2022; and exceeding by 3.8% those captured in the same period of 2019, which were one million 767 thousand tourists.

During the months of January to October 2023, the arrival of Colombian tourists by air was 604,468 tourists, exceeding the 488,05 arrivals in the same period of 2019, that is, 23.9%, said the head of Sectur.

Of the rest of the nationalities, 4 million 204 thousand tourists were counted, this is an increase of 3.7% compared to January-October 2022, and representing a market share of 23.8%.

The Secretary of Tourism reported that, between January-October 2023, Cancún, the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Los Cabos, were the airports that received the highest number of international tourists, with 13 million 541 thousand tourists, This is 4.4% more compared to the first ten months of 2022; Also exceeding arrivals in the same period of 2019 by 12.4%, when 12 million 46 thousand tourists arrived.

During January-October 2023, 8 million 157 thousand international tourists arrived at the Cancun airport, an increase of 5% compared to the first ten months of 2022; 3 million 501 thousand tourists arrived at the AICM, 1.7% more compared to the period January to October 2022; and the Los Cabos airport received one million 884 thousand international tourists, this is 7% more than what was observed during the same period in 2022.

From the rest of the airports, between January and October 2023, the arrival of 4 million 122 thousand international tourists was recorded, a level 12.4% higher than the arrivals of the same period in 2022.
